Vernon Township Fire Station 3 recently installed a Safe Haven Baby Box at 600 Vitality Dr., Fortville. The box is positioned on the west side of the station and officially opened Oct. 21. The fire station was chosen due to the 24/7 availability of paramedics at the station and also for the level of anonymity it provides. It is the 18h Safe Haven Baby Box in Indiana. The Safe Haven Law allows people to anonymously surrender their healthy newborn without fear of criminal prosecution. Linda Znachko, founder of He Knows Your Name, speaks at the event while Luis Aldrey, interpreter from LUNA Language Services, interprets. Linda Znachko and Luis Aldrey pause by the new box.
