With the help of Susan Albers, president of the local chapter Psi Iota Xi sorority; Cynthia Young, executive director of the SullivanMunce Cultural Center; and Skyler Keifer, an Eagle Scout candidate, a Little Free Library and reading bench are now outside of SullivanMunce.
“It will be colorful,” Albers said. “I’m so glad that Cynthia offered to use her amazing artistic talents to paint both the bench and library once Skyler is finished constructing them.”
The Little Free Library, much like the Take A Penny Leave a Penny tradition, can only function when people donate old items for new ones.
Albers said she was inspired to create a Little Free Library because Psi Iota Xi has a focus on literature and art.
“We could fill it not only with books, but with community sketch books,” Albers said. “[One could] take a sketchbook, fill a page with a sketch of something in the Village, and return it to the (library) for someone else to add to the sketch book.”
Young said that the location was an ideal fit.
“The MunceArt Center on the SullivanMunce Cultural Center campus was a perfect location not only because of the art connection, but also because the MunceArt Center was founded by Mary Elizabeth Munce, who was also a founder of Psi Iota Xi,” Young said.
