Zionsville will be home to one of four new Kroger stores announced April 29 as part of a huge expansion planned in central Indiana. The Zionsville Kroger will be at 116th St. and Michigan Road.

On April 29, Kroger announced its strategic capital investment plan for central Indiana, which exceeds $464.6 million and is expected to create 3,440 jobs by 2017. Kroger is also building a regional training center in Indianapolis to train the company’s current and future employees.

“This announcement is a celebration of our people and our local communities. Kroger has remained very competitive in the marketplace because we recognize the critical importance of investing in stores with features appropriate to the 21st century marketplace and evolving customer expectations,” said Jeff Burt, president of Kroger’s Central Division, in a press release. “Having capital resources, accurate market research and a determination to achieve our customer-focused business plan goals is a strong competitive advantage in the central Indiana region and explains our steady market share growth in recent years.”

Other new stores are planned in Greenwood, Indianapolis and at a location yet to be announced. Seven Marketplace stores are also planned, as well as expansions and remodels at 22 other stores.
