After one term on the Noblesville School Board, Gary Duvall has his eyes set on another government body. Duvall, 68, has filed to be a candidate in the Noblesville Common Council District 3 race.

“I really think I can help our citizens and schools out both,” he said. “Anytime someone has a question I give people my phone number. I’m almost a Noblesville fanatic. I listen to what people have to say … I love Noblesville. It’s a good place; I just want to make it better.”

Representing Old Town in District 3, Duvall would like to see a four-story parking garage in downtown.

“It’s a great benefit to local merchants and people shopping,” he said, adding it could be built adjacent to McMillan’s Auto Care & Towing.

Duvall said he is not in favor of Federal Hill, the west side gateway into downtown.

“It’s so much money and it’s not something we can afford,” he said. “We need a bridge across the river (to alleviate traffic downtown). It’s less money and will help citizens a lot more.”

From his time on the school board, Duvall is concerned with recent housing projects.

“I don’t believe we can keep bringing in the low end apartments,” Duvall said, adding it costs the district $1,000 per student. “The single parent is working two jobs and doesn’t have the time to work with their kids.”

Duvall is a 1965 Noblesville High School graduate. He attended Ball State University for two years and graduated from Indianapolis Business College. He was in automotive sales for 35 years and is now a broker with Ayers Real Estate. He is a member of the Noblesville Kiwanis, Lions Club, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and formerly coached at the Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville, Noblesville Youth Baseball and Babe Ruth. He is a fifth-generation Noblesville resident.

Also running in District 3 are Dave Carter and incumbent Rick Taylor.
