Classic cars, antique bicycles, children’s petting zoo, and live music are just some of the highlights of the “Back to the Fifties” Festival held on the Courthouse Square in Lebanon, Indiana, on September 14-15. On Friday, this fun-filled weekend kicks off at 6 p.m. with the “Barometer Soup Band” performing from 7-10 p.m. along with a Classic Car “Cruise-In”, Children’s Fun Park with games and inflatables, street dancing, and traditional festival food.  “It’s a family-oriented event from the smallest child to a couple in their 80’s who come from Indianapolis each year to participate on Friday night in the street dance,” says Festival Chairman, Carmen Ottinger.

On Saturday, activities abound for all ages from 9-4:30 p.m. beginning with the 5K Rock & Roll Run & Walk at 9 a.m. One highlight each year which shows the tremendous growth of the festival is the Classic Car show, “In the first year, we had 12 classic cars and this year we expect 180”, says Ottinger, who has been a part of this event since its inception. Other festival activities on Saturday include Boone County Historical Tours, C.H.I.P.S. ID program, Hoosier Antique & Classic Bicycle show, an art show, and a book sale. Kid’s will enjoy the lego display and fun park along with a contest by Dairy Queen for the whole family.  Live music will be provided by headliner, Phillip Steven & The Open Road”, at noon and later by Roy E. Reynolds with a tribute to Elvis Presley to close out the festival from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Festival activities are free and convenient with a shuttle service from Memorial Park to downtown Lebanon (Saturday only).  Booth space is available with applications online as well as registration for the 5K race.
