St.Vincent Indianapolis Hospital Announces Trauma Services Verification

St.Vincent Indianapolis Hospital recently earned verification as a Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons. The designation represents the faith-based hospital’s commitment to building an exemplary trauma program, and gives patients, families and EMS providers increased access to highly specialized care during emergent situations.

To ensure verification, St.Vincent renovated space for trauma/surgical and neuroscience intensive care units (ICU) and added CT scan imaging modalities. The hospital also has a dedicated trauma operating room, and added in-house coverage for trauma surgery, anesthesia, critical care, radiology and hospitalist programs. Other specialty services that will be available include neurosurgery, vascular, thoracic, plastic surgery, hand, face, and OB/GYN.

To ensure air transportation was readily available, St.Vincent Health arranged an affiliation agreement with PHI Air Medical creating the critical care transport brand – StatFlight. The partnership assists in the stabilization and transportation of trauma patients by air to St.Vincent or other advanced tertiary care facilities. St.Vincent StatFlight has five medical helicopters located in Anderson, Danville, North Vernon, Rushville and West Lafayette.

Last month, OrthoIndy announced that the OrthoIndy trauma team will provide care exclusively at St.Vincent Indianapolis Hospital. The partnership will bring OrthoIndy’s entire trauma team, and decades of combined experience with its excellent reputation to the St.Vincent Trauma Center.
