Noblesville High School teacher a semifinalist for national award

Bethany Robinson, Noblesville High School’s jazz band director and assistant band director, has been named a national semifinalist for the 2024 GRAMMY Music Educator Award,

Robinson is one of 25 semifinalists selected from more than 2,000 nominees across the nation. She will compete for a $10,000 honorarium and matching grant for the high school. She was previously a GRAMMY finalist in 2022 and a semifinalist in 2023.

Robinson said she was grateful to be a semifinalist.

“I could not be more thankful to be surrounded by supportive students, families and community and administration who have encouraged me and shared in the joy as I’ve learned how to empower students through music education,” Robinson stated. “I’m looking forward to this continued journey and appreciate all the support along the way.”

The GRAMMY Music Educator Award recognizes educators who have made significant and lasting contributions to music education and maintaining music education in schools, according to the organization.

“Bethany has grown the NHS jazz program exponentially in her time at NHS and has led her students to national recognition for their accomplishments.” NHS Principal Craig McCaffrey stated. “She is an outstanding educator, performer, leader and advocate for music education. We’re proud of her ongoing accomplishments and are excited to celebrate her success.”

Robinson started teaching music at Noblesville Schools in 2005. She is also the chair of the National Association for Music Education Jazz Council and past president of the Indiana Jazz Educators Association.

She has several accolades including: 2023 Outstanding High School Music Educator of the Year by the Indiana Music Educators Association; 2014 Indiana Jazz Educator of the Year; 2015 Noblesville Schools Teacher of the Year; and 2016 Indiana Teacher of the Year semifinalist.

The top 10 finalists for the GRAMMY award will be announced in December and the winner will be announced next year.
