The Westfield Washington Public Library’s Summer Reading Program returns June 1 and runs through July 31. This will be the first year the program is offered completely online.
The theme is “Imagine Your Story.” The program is available for all ages. Separate programs are offered for children, teens and adults. In addition, the library will offer virtual programs throughout the summer with video Story Time programs and craft kits. The craft kits, as well as books and other items, are available for curbside pickup.
“‘Fostering exploration, discovery and growth’ is the mission statement of the library, and the Summer Reading Program can do just that, along with being a lot of fun and helping to keep everyone’s reading skills up,” said Allison Knuttel, WWPL’s public relations and marketing manager. “With our summer looking a lot different this year, and with many standard summer activities being curtailed, this is a program we can all safely be a part of together.”
To participate in the summer reading, register online at wwpl.beanstack.org beginning June 1. The BeanStack app can be used on a mobile phone. Participants can read or listen to books and visit the library’s virtual programs and can log reading hours and complete activities for virtual tickets, which are used for drawing prizes. The program is completed after 40 hours of reading or listening. Those who finish will earn a completion prize and be entered for a grand prize. The prizes must be picked up between Aug. 3 and Aug. 31. The grand prize is an Oculus Go Standalone Virtual Reality Headset-64GB, a carrying case and a $75 Amazon Gift Card. The grand prize is sponsored by the Friends of the Westfield Library. Participants must complete the program to enter the grand prize drawing.
