12-bed memory care home proposed in northwest Carmel

A 12-bed residential assisted living memory care home has been proposed in northwest Carmel.

Willow Haven Senior Home is planned on 1.28 acres at 13145 West Road. It will provide 24-hour care to people with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

“Studies have shown that those with dementia fare better and even thrive in smaller residential style homes with a lower resident to caregiver ratio,” Willow Haven Senior Homes owner James Miles said. “Having grown up in a caregiving home taking care of my uncle with a mental illness, I can empathize with what these families are going through. I want to provide the residents of Carmel with boutique option for their family members with dementia.”

The site is zoned S1-residential. The petitioner is seeking several variances, including memory care as a permitted use, six parking spots instead of eight and shorter side buffer yards than permitted by ordinance. The Carmel Board of Zoning Appeals is expected to review the project at its November meeting.

Willow Haven services include meals prepared by a chef, laundry, social activities and housekeeping.

If approved, construction is expected to begin in February 2020 and open later in the year. Learn more at WillowHavenSeniorHomes.com.
