Carmel Clay Schools extends school day to make up for bad weather beginning Feb. 19

School buses in Carmel will shuttle students home a little later beginning Feb. 19.

Carmel Clay Schools has added 10 minutes to the school day through the end of the year to make up for class time missed because of bad weather.

Four school days have been cancelled because of cold or icy conditions this year, and CCS must make up two of them to meet the state-mandated requirement to have at least 180 instructional days per school year.

“After thoroughly discussing the various options for make-up days, we believed extending the school day through the end of the year is the best option,” CCS Supt. Michael Beresford stated in an email to parents.

School start times will remain the same. New dismissal times are:

  • 2:45 p.m. for elementary schools
  • 3:15 p.m. for middle schools
  • 3:15 p.m. for high school

If another school day is cancelled, CCS plans add additional time to the school day.
