Six months to the day after the May 25 shooting at Noblesville West Middle School rocked the community, the school and the student who was shot brought community pride to Lucas Oil Stadium.

The NWMS choir, West Side Sound, of which Ella Whistler is a member, performed the national anthem at the Nov. 25 Colts game against the Miami Dolphins. Whistler was a shot a combined seven times in the face, neck, chest and hand by a classmate. A statement from Whistler’s family in early June said she suffered collapsed lungs, a broken jaw, clavicle, multiple neck vertebrae and ribs, a severed vertebral vein and significant nerve damage, among other injuries.

During halftime, Whistler was the featured dancer during a performance by the Indianapolis Colts Cheerleaders. She donned a Noblesville Millers cheerleading uniform.

Director Alex Axsom leads West Side Sound. The choir has nearly 50 members, made up of seventh- and eighth-grade students from NWMS.
