Despite receiving some opposition from city council, a 36-hole miniature golf course may be ready as early as next March.
During a May city council meeting, council member Joe Edwards said he “would rather not see a ‘Dollywood’-type theme near U.S 31 and (Ind.) 32.”
He was joined by council member Cindy Spoljaric, who said, “(The) aesthetics of (the Ind.) 32 overlay must be considered. While this course looks nice in the summer, and in these photos, we need to think year-round.”
However, for Kevin and Jessica Lynch, co-owners of the restaurant and golf course entitled Birdies, they say they are more than ready to open for business, after it was approved by the city council 6-1.
“We were constantly looking for a business we could use in the summertime,” Kevin Lynch said. “We found the land on (Ind. 32) and realized we needed a lot more acres.”
Lynch said that the high-end American-style restaurant will comprise of two floors, with nearly 9,000 square feet with views from the rooftop bar facing west of downtown Westfield. The restaurant has a liquor license and will feature a sports theme. Lynch said the architectural goal is to incorporate as much natural light into the restaurant with opening doors onto the golf course, so that views of the natural landscape will be abundant.
“With Grand Park right by, we thought it would be a quality family friendly environment,” he said. “We are shooting for opening as early as March of 2018, and be fully operational by April or May.”
Kevin Lynch is an American Hockey League player for the Syracuse Crunch. His wife, Jessica, is the daughter of Ted Gelov, the chairman and CEO of Carmel-based Heartland Food Products Group. Gelov plans to invest in Birdies as it opens. The golf course is seasonal, but the restaurant will operate year-round. The couple expects to spend nearly $4 million on the attraction.
