Whitestown police were called to the apartment complex at 8:07 p.m. March 8 after receiving a report of a suspicious person who was seen looking into vehicles and walking around several buildings. Officers discovered James Fluker, 23, squatting down and allegedly attempting to hide from officers. He fled on foot when officers turned on a spotlight.

Later, officers learned that the front door had been forced open on an apartment and that several items were missing. They found a backpack with the stolen items near the spot where Fluker had fled.

Whitestown detectives interviewed Fluker on March 9 at the Boone County Sheriff’s Office. They said he admitted to burglarizing the apartment and stealing the items. They also said he found the apartment complex through Google and thought it looked like a place where residents would have “nice stuff.”

Fluker is charged with resisting law enforcement, residential entry and theft. He is being held at the Boone County Jail.
