Why did you become a teacher? “I became a teacher because of Roy Adams, who was my English teacher from seventh grade to 12th grade. Roy was inspiring because of the great enthusiasm and joy that he shared with his students.”

What goals do you have for your students? “My greatest hope for students is what I say after the pledge every day: ‘Be kind, work hard and make the world a better place.’”

What do you encourage parents to do at home to help their children strengthen particular skills? “Read. Read to children, read with children, talk about books, share books, just keep reading.”

Name your favorite movie. “That’s a tough one because I love movies. I love oddball movies like ‘The Gates of Heaven’ by Errol Morris. I also love ‘The Tree of Life.’”

Name your favorite musician or band. Wilco.

What’s something your students might not know about you? “I was once part of a sketch comedy group in Indianapolis.”
