The judges of this year’s annual Door Decorating Contest couldn’t come to a decision about the grand prize winner.

So they created a second award.

The grand prize, which for two years has been the overall winner of all entries from Zionsville businesses and homes, was split into a grand prize for business and one for residential.

Linda Bush (985 West Oak Street) won the residential grand prize, and Salon G (270 S. Main Street) was awarded the business grand prize.

Both of the winners won first place in their respective categories last year, with Bush edging out Salon G for the grand prize.

“We must say the Volkswagon with lighted presents on top put (Salon G) over the top,” said Sally Zelonis who has organized the event each year. The vehicle was parked by the salon during judging.

The Village Residents Association sponsors the event, which is open to businesses and homes in the Village. A team of seven judges “loved seeing everyone’s creative efforts in making Zionsville sparkle this holiday season,” according to Zelonis.

The judges commented on several unique aspects of the door decorating, including a donut tree at A Taste of Amish and three decorated doors at a home on Cedar Street.

Next year the contest rules will be revised and it will be renamed the ZVRA Holiday Decorating Contest to encourage more participation.

“Hopefully it will become a tradition that people look forward to,” Zelonis said.
