Obituary: Joseph Richard Hempfling

Joseph Richard Hempfling, 87, Noblesville, died Oct. 7 at Harbor Manor in Noblesville. He was born March 6, 1929 to Joseph A. and Bess (Parkinson) Hempfling in Zanesville, Ohio.

Joe was a graduate of Frankfort High School, in Frankfort, Ind. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1951 and entered the United States Army in 1952. Joe proudly served his country in the Korean War, where he served as a dispatcher for helicopters and later as a stenographer at the Peace Talks in Panmunjom when the truce was signed.

Joe married the love of his life, Lois Ann Edmiston of Bedford, Ind., on Oct. 20, 1962 in Bedford. They spent 54 happy years together, raising their daughter, Catherine Ann. Joe was a pharmaceutical salesman, originally for Kiefer Stewart in Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his three sisters, Alice Davis, Patricia O’Donnell and Norma Hribar.

Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lois Ann, and his daughter, Cathy (Hempfling) Soltys, son-in-law Peter Soltys and granddaughters Madison and Lillian. Joe has many nieces and nephews who remember him fondly and lovingly.

The family has asked contributions be made to meaningful non-profit organizations supporting Catholic charities.
