Carmel Middle School social studies teacher Peggy Lehman recently participated in a 10-day workshop in Yellowstone National Park hosted by Indiana State University in partnership with the Indiana Council for Economic Education. The workshop, “Natural Resource and Public Economics: Conflicts in Public Land Use in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem,” exposed educators to innovative ways to understand and resolve tensions between the wise use of resources and the public’s need for access to public lands and wildlife resources. Topics and issues investigated included bison with Brucellosis roaming off park land, winter use of the park, the reintroductions of wolves to the park and bioprospecting from the park’s geothermal features.
