“My main goal is to continue with the great tradition of academic excellence that Mohawk has had over a number of years and to expand the social and emotional learning of students,” the 36-year-old said. “My most immediate goal is to build relationships with all students, staff and families to ensure we have a level of trust, and so I can know students on a personal level.”

Fagan replaces Lori Storer, who retired at the end of the 2015-16 school year. Fagan attended Indiana University for her education.

Fagan, a Carmel High School graduate, was previously the assistant principal at Orchard Park Elementary.

“I feel as though my position at Orchard Park has prepared me for this role. I was able to work with the principal there, and that has prepared me for the duties a principal does on a daily basis,” she said. “I’m not nervous. I’m really excited to get to know everybody and learn what makes the building tick and what makes the building work. I feel very fortunate to have this position.”

Fagan said that while in school herself, she loved all science classes.

“I grew up in Carmel, and I’ve known for a long time that I’ve wanted to be a principal and to have an opportunity to do so in a school district like Carmel is really fortunate,” she said. “I really want to dig deeper and continue the great work the teachers have been doing … I love teaching, I love kids and I can’t wait to bring that to a different building.”
