Westfield recognized as safe city

SafeWise, a home security and safety brand, recently released a report detailing the 20 safest cities in Indiana. Westfield, as well as a variety of other Hamilton and Boone County areas, made the list.

“The Westfield Police Department utilizes a true community-based policing philosophy,” WPD Chief Joel Rush stated. “Whereas, we fight crime and provide a safe environment through a developed partnership with the community.  We have worked hard developing a great relationship with those we serve through our many outreach programs.”

SafeWise chose cities based on FBI Crime Report statistics from 2014 – the most recent – and population data. Cities with less than 4,000 residents were eliminated from the study. Cities that failed to submit a crime report to the FBI also were eliminated.

Cities were then judged on violent crimes, such as rape and murder, and property crimes, such as arson and theft. SafeWise then calculated the probability of those crimes occurring per every 1,000 residents.
