Zionsville and Whitestown police officers found 20 underage people, with 17 of them testing positive for alcohol consumption, at a home in the 6900 block of Old Hunt Club Road just before 1 a.m. June 24.

The Boone County Communications Center received a tip through Crime Stoppers about the incident. After looking through a window and seeing what appeared to be several juveniles drinking, officers surrounded the home and knocked on the front door. Several people attempted to run from the scene, but officers caught them and took them back inside.

The owner of the house was not home but gave police permission to search it after being contacted.

Police released the juveniles to their parents at the scene. Charges have been submitted to Boone County Juvenile Probation.

“Summer-time breeds these types of calls in Boone County. What these juveniles need to understand is that they are breaking the law. It may seem harmless to them, but it can turn tragic in an instant,” Boone County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Harris stated. “I would ask that the parents of Boone County youth speak to your children about the harms of underage drinking. Not only is there a potential of harm, but the consequences of being caught are irreversible and last forever.”
