A group of local physicians are teaming up to spread awareness of pediatric health care. Presented by the Center for Early Orthodontic Treatment and its colleagues, The Raising Healthy Kids Family Health Fair will take place from noon to 4 p.m. June 5.

“The Center for Early Orthodontic Treatment reached out to us and they and a number of their clients were interested in having a health fair,” Event Coordinator Dawn Such said. “What they noticed was that a lot of people didn’t realize how much integrated health care needed to be between a pediatrician and dentist and orthodontist and how all those things work together as the child grows. They wanted to bring that awareness to the community.”

The fair will consist of booths with multiple physicians, vendors and wellness providers from various medical fields to educate the community. The idea stemmed from the belief that a majority of health fairs focused purely on adults.

“We’ll have … at least 20 health care providers to participate in the health fair,” Such said. “Everything from breastfeeding to orthodontists, dentists, primary health care physicians. The Pike Fire Department is going to be there to talk about safety. It’s overall safety and health awareness for your child.”

Parents will have the opportunity to ask questions of physicians on site and there will also be activities for everyone.

“There will be a bunch of activities for kids,” Such said. “We’ll have a large bounce house, arts and crafts. A DJ will be there specializing in kids songs and there will be dances and more active, healthy things like limbo and jump roping.”

Admittance is free to the public. For more, contact Dawn Such at [email protected]
