Hamilton Southeastern High School senior and class of 2016 valedictorian Mason Swofford was named one of 689 semifinalists from across the country in this year’s U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
The semifinalists were selected from nearly 4,700 candidates graduating from high school this year. Now in its 52nd year, inclusion in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high school seniors. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities.
In addition to being valedictorian at HSEHS this year, Swofford is a National Merit Finalist and National AP Scholar, served as the Indiana DECA State President and achieved a perfect score of 36 on the ACT.
Upon graduating from HSEHS, Swofford plans to attend Stanford University this fall with a focus on electrical engineering, computer science and business.
