For some busy families, Stephanie Marshall might seem like an angel.
That’s because her business, Slice of Heaven Delivered, supplies a full array of meals.
“I have a whole menu of different items for a lot of different diets and needs,” said Marshall, who lives on the outskirts of Zionsville. “I prepare them and deliver them with instructions on how they should bake them or grill them … A lot of people order two to five meals a week.”
Most of Marshall’s meals are prepared so families can bake them at home in the oven. Some meals, like her pulled pork, are already cooked when delivered. A gourmet chicken salad is also ready to eat when it is delivered.
Marshall, who started the business in early April, is in the process of getting the proper food handling permits. She said she expects to have those soon and will start working at Carmel’s Kitchen, a commercial kitchen in Carmel.
Once she starts at Carmel’s Kitchen, she plans to set up a website. Her Facebook page is under Slice of Heaven Delivered. She puts a different menu up each Thursday, with some items available from previous menus. She estimates 90 percent of her clients are from Carmel.
“I’ve always had a passion for cooking and serving,” she said.
Marshall, 44, has long delivered meals to friends in need.
“If I found out someone she just had a baby, or they just got home from the hospital, I would just make an extra meal and deliver it to people’s houses out of love,” said Marshall, whose youngest of three children is 16. “My husband (Chuck) one day said, ‘Why don’t you turn this into a real-life business?’ I thought, ‘I can do that now because my kids are older now.’ I see a lot of moms and dads who are busy and don’t have time to cook a meal. I like to see them enjoy their families like I got to do when I was (a stay-at-home mom).”
