The Market District Teacher of the Month is Lauren Detrick, a fourth-grade teacher at Stony Creek Elementary in Noblesville. Her student, Emerson Morris, nominated her. As a reward, Emerson won a pizza party for the classroom, and Detrick won a $50 gift card to Market District grocery store, Teacher of the Month sponsor.

Here is Emerson’s winning essay:

Hi, my name is Emerson Morris. My teacher’s name is Miss Detrick. I am in 4th grade at Stony Creek. Miss Detrick is the best teacher for many reasons!

My teacher Miss Detrick is very compassionate. She rarely yells. She has maybe yelled twice this year! If somebody is not doing the right thing, she calmly says what they should be doing.

Miss Detrick is not serious at everything. She laughs and smiles at a ton of things. She never talks in her deepest voice. She talks normally and calmly.

Miss Detrick always explains (thoroughly). If a student doesn’t understand something well, she explains that thing slowly so that student understands it.

Miss Detrick is fair! She doesn’t let one person do something and not the other. She is never mean to one person and nice to the other. She is always nice!

Whenever you are struggling, she will always help you! If I am struggling on math, she will come over to me calmly and help me with it.

Miss Detrick pushes you to the level she wants you to be at. She encourages you to do your best! She always wants you to be improving by some point!

Miss Detrick loves every kid! She cares about each kid! She thinks every kid is lovely, caring and thoughtful!

That is why is think Miss Detrick is the best teacher ever! She deserves to be appreciated! She inspires me, and someday, I want to be a teacher just like her when I grow up!

Sincerely,

Emerson Morris
