Ten-digit dialing –All consumers in central Indiana’s 317 telephone area code are now encouraged to use all 10 digits of the phone number, including area code, to make local phone calls. This will help consumers make the transition to mandatory 10-digit dialing for local calls within the 317 area code, which begins in Sept.

Student pages – State Sen. Mike Delph (R-Carmel) recently welcomed Zionsville student Elizabeth Shepard to the Statehouse to serve as a Senate page. In addition, State Rep. Donna Schaibley (R-Carmel) hosted Katherine Heiss and Anja Hasewinkel as pages.

Heavy trash collection – The Town of Zionsville will provide a heavy trash collection day during the week of May 9 on your regular collection day. This is an opportunity to dispose of items not normally accepted by the weekly trash service. For more information, visit www.zionsville-in.gov and type Heavy Trash in the search box.

Biology students advance – ZCHS has the highest number of students ever advancing to the semi-final round of the USA BioOlympiad.  These students are in the top ten percent of advanced biology students who took the exam nationally. Congratulations to (from left): Spencer Bures, Brian O’Leary, Jessica Miller, Nate Fried, and Alicia Bostwick.

ZCS Community Day – Zionsville Community Schools will hold Community Day from 9 to 11 a.m. on April 16 at the Transportation Center, 9770 E. 600 S. Hiring managers will be available to talk about job opportunities for bus drivers, bus aides and food service positions.

Artisan Marketplace – The Indiana Artisan Marketplace is a chance to buy one-of-a-kind artwork and artisan food directly from over 100 Hoosiers. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 9 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 10 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, Expo Hall. Zionsville resident Jennifer Berger will be on hand to display her fiber creations of animals, monsters and ornaments.

Sounds in the Village concert – Christ Lutheran Church, 600 N. Ford Rd., presents string musicians Li Li and Charles Morey in concert at 3 p.m. on April 10. The 45-minute program will feature works by Bach, Mozart and Rachmaninoff. The concert is free and open to the public.

BCSSI art contest – Boone County Senior Services presents its third annual art contest for individuals age 60 and over. Entries in painting and photography will be accepted from 2 to 4 p.m. April 28 at the Lebanon Public Library, 104 E. Washington St. Exhibition opening and judging will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. April 29. Call 765-482-5220 or 317-873-8939 for more details.

Volunteers needed – Indy Reads: Boone County has opportunities for adults to help their Boone County neighbors with English language skills. Training is provided. No previous experience is required. Interested adults should contact Gigi Nicholas at [email protected] or 765-482-3460 x1275.

STEM scholarships available – Nominations are open for the 2016 Mr. and Miss Math and Mr. and Miss Science awards. These awards recognize outstanding high school seniors for their performance in science, technology, engineering, and math. Winning students receive $1,000 college scholarships through Indiana’s CollegeChoice 529 Direct Savings Plan. Nominations can be submitted through April 10 at https://secure.in.gov/apps/mathscienceawards/.

Scholarships available – Indiana Sheriffs’ Association will award $500 college scholarships to qualified high school seniors or college students pursuing degrees in criminal justice studies. The application can be obtained from high school guidance counselors or downloaded from the Indiana Sheriff’s Association website, www.indianasheriffs.org. Deadline is Apr. 1.

Free tax help – The AARP offers free tax help to those age 60 and older with low to moderate income. Sessions will be held at the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. through Apr. 14.  Reservations are required and can be made by calling 317-873-3149.
