Noblesville kid wins athlete of the year

Chris Nobbe, 8, a third grader at Noble Crossing Elementary in Noblesville, was recently honored as the USA Track & Field Indiana Youth Cross Country Athlete of the Year in the 8 and Under Division. He received his award at the USATF Indiana Awards Celebration on Jan. 16 in Indianapolis.

Nobbe competes for the Body in Training Track Club in Noblesville. In the fall, at the USATF Indiana Junior Olympics championships, he won finishing four seconds ahead of the runner-up Malachi Lesnet of Noblesville over the 2km course. Two weeks later at the Region 7 championships, he placed second trailing Jack Shinneman also of Noblesville. Earlier in the fall, he placed second at Hoosier Cross Country Grand Prix events held in Lowell, Ind. and Noblesville and finished the year ranked fifth in the grand prix standings.

Nobbe also plays travel baseball, and his favorite subject in school is math. He began running four years ago when he ran with his grandmother at a local one-mile race. He finished 23rd out of 169 runners.
