Chaucie’s Place has kicked off a child sexual abuse prevention initiative .Chaucie’s Place will train every Hamilton County school district in Stewards of Children®, a child sexual abuse prevention program specifically for adults. Stewards of Children is a a prevention program teaches adults how to prevent, recognize and respond appropriately to a disclosure or suspicion of abuse.

“Just for a moment, think what that will mean to the children in our community…every single school district employee trained to prevent child sexual abuse,” said Toby Stark, Chaucie’s Place executive director.  “That means every single child will be part of a community dedicated and able to protect them. Every. Single. One. And, that means we will have fewer children sexually abused.  Isn’t that what we all want?”

Chaucie’s Place offers three prevention programs:  Smart Steps: A Body Safety Program for Children™, which teaches children they have the right to say “NO!” to unwanted touches from anyone; tell a trusted adult; and abuse is never their fault.  In the last school year alone, more than 16,000 elementary school children throughout Central Indiana participated in the Smart Steps™ program.  But because child protection is truly an adult responsibility, Chaucie’s Place staff became authorized facilitators in Stewards of Children®, a national child sexual abuse prevention program for parents and adults who work with children.  And lastly, Chaucie’s Place introduced Lifelines®, Youth Suicide Prevention program, just two years ago.

The staff is currently implementing Lifelines with Hamilton Southeastern, Westfield Washington, Sheridan, Hamilton Heights schools, as well as Brooke’s Place.
