The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter and Witham Health Services Foundation are hosting a two-part series, “The Brain and Heart Connection: How Vascular Health Relates to Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias,” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10 and 24 at Witham Health Services, North Pavilion Community Room, 2605 N. Lebanon St. in Lebanon.

The first part, on Sept. 10, will include information on the warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease. The second part, on Sept. 24, will include a presentation from Dr. David Spangler of Witham’s Transitions Unit of the latest research on the connection between heart health and brain health, followed by a panel of dementia experts. The panel will share information and answer questions from family members and professionals in an open forum setting. Panelists include representatives from Witham Health Services, Alzheimer’s Association and CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions.

“This event will provide vital information about all aspects of dementia and the resources available to deal with it, as well as, the opportunity for attendees to ask questions to a group of dementia experts from a variety of disciplines,” said Dustin Ziegler, Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter Associate director of clinical engagement.

Today, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease – a progressive and fatal neurodegenerative disease that has no way to prevent, cure or even slow its progression. That number is expected to as much as triple by 2050. In Indiana alone, there are more than 110,000 Hoosiers living with Alzheimer’s disease. Approximately 332,000 friends and family members manage the significant emotional, physical and financial challenges of caregiving for their loved ones living with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia.

There are no fees to attend, but space is limited and registration is required by contacting the Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline at 800-272-3900. Refreshments will be provided.
