Noblesville’s Movies in the Park Series Begins Saturday, August 29

The Noblesville Parks Department invites residents to go into the woods and underground and visit The Capitol, gridiron and other creative lands during the 2015 Movies in the Park Series. Beginning with a double feature on Saturday, August 29, the annual film series provides free screenings and enjoyment for the entire family.

“The Movies in the Park Series has been an ongoing tradition in Noblesville for a number of years. Attendees can enjoy family friendly movies, bring a blanket, their dinner or snacks and enjoy an evening of cinema at Noblesville’s beautiful and historic Forest Park or Downtown Square,” Noblesville Assistant Parks Director Mike Hoffmeister said.

The movies will begin at dusk at Forest Park’s Shelter #1 (unless otherwise noted) and will be projected on a 30-foot inflatable movie screen. Light concessions will be available for purchase.

This year’s schedule includes:

Saturday, August 29 – Double Feature Night with Big Hero 6 (PG, 102 minutes) and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (PG, 81 min.)

Big Hero 6 is a Disney animation about the special bond that develops between plus-sized inflatable robot Baymax, and prodigy Hiro Hamada, who team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes. Voiced by Ryan Potter, Scott Adsit and Jamie Chung.

Alexander’s day begins with gum stuck in his hair, followed by more calamities. However, he finds little sympathy from his family and begins to wonder if bad things only happen to him, his mom, dad, brother and sister – who all find themselves living through their own terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Starring Steve Carell, Jennifer Garner and Ed Oxenbould.

Saturday, September 5 – Into the Woods (PG, 125 min.)

A modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales in a musical format that follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel – all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife and the witch who has put a curse on them. Starring Anna Kendrick, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Johnny Depp.

Saturday, September 12 – The Boxtrolls (PG, 96 min.)

A young orphaned boy raised by underground cave-dwelling trash collectors tries to save his friends from an evil exterminator. Based on the children’s novel “Here Be Monsters” by Alan Snow. Voiced by Ben Kingsley, Jared Harris and Nick Frost.

Saturday, September 19 – The Lego Movie (PG, 101 min.)

An ordinary Lego construction worker, thought to be the prophesied “Special,” is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the Lego universe into eternal stasis. Voiced by Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell and Elizabeth Banks.

Saturday, September 26 – The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I (PG-13, 123 min.) * Please note: This movie will be shown at Forest Park’s Shelter #5.

Katniss Everdeen is in District 13 after she shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta and a nation moved by her courage. Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.

Friday, October 2 – The Blind Side (PG-13, 129 min.) * Please note: This movie will be shown on the downtown courthouse square as part of the October First Friday event.

The story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All-American football player and first round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family. Starring Quinton Aaron, Sandra Bullock (who won an Academy Award for her role) and Tim McGraw.
