On Aug. 20, Allisonville Meadows Assisted Living, in conjunction with Fishers Parks & Recreation Department, will host the second annual Senior Expo. The informational open house will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fishers Public Library. The event hopes to bring seniors, ages 50 or older, together with vendors that provide senior services.

“We really do it in an effort to connect seniors to resources and businesses that serve their needs and improve their quality of life in the area,” Casey Cawthon, marketing and public relations assistant for Fishers, said.

Providing information for senior services isn’t the only goal of the event. Seniors are encouraged to bring friends and family members along with them.

“It’s very informational based. The goal is that all these vendors are set up so that seniors can just walk through and explore and get to know people.

“It’s also very much about socialization,” Cawthon said.

Alpha Home Physical Therapy will provide refreshments. There is no cost to attend the event. Seniors can register to win raffle prizes which vary from gift baskets to services.

The city of Fishers has been voted in the past as one of the Top 25 places to retire. Cawthon echoes that sentiment in Fishers quest to include its senior community in events.

“We have a lot going on in the city for different age groups but we want to make sure we have a dual focus not only on providing events for families and active people but also for seniors. They’re a very valuable part of the community and we don’t want them to get overlooked,” Cawthon said.

Fishers P&RD puts out a senior fun guide every quarter filled with events tailored toward the senior community. For more information on the senior fun guide or the senior expo visit fishers.in.us.
