“If you do coffee right everything else will fall into place.”

That’s Darrin Marion’s philosophy and what he preaches to his staff. The owner of Darrin’s Coffee Company is looking toward the future after a legal prosecution stemming from real estate investments and is now focused on building his business and moving forward with his brand.

He’s in the process of remodeling 98 South Main Street adding food, clothing, more coffee choices and coworking space. His goal is to open with the basics by August 1 with a sidewalk party on August 15 complete with reggae band Third Eye Soul.

Local clothiers Hayes & Taylor and United State of Indiana will be part of an apparel section starting in early August. The clothing will consist primarily of t-shirts.

He recently acquired Fine Grind Coffee which specializes in flavored coffee. It’s an area he hadn’t been able to incorporate into his own coffee previously.

“I only do organic stuff so it has to be an oil (versus using food coloring or extract),” Marion said.

He also acquired Fine Grind’s online presence and will continue the Internet sales and domain name. The coffee had been in Union Station for several years before being moved outside of Indianapolis.

Marion stumbled upon the owners who were ready to sell after roughly twenty years in business and will be labeling it Fine Grind with Darrin’s using his own coffee as the base.

Marion’s goal to have a coworking space as part of his coffee shop will come to fruition later this fall. As part of the remodel he’s creating two conference rooms, phone rooms for privacy and an address to have mail delivered.

And he’s trying to “keep it moving.”

“People build new pasts all the time so that’s what I’m doing,” he said.
