Now open: 126th Street and Carmel Drive bridge

0

The 126th Street/Carmel Drive bridge over US 31 is now open to traffic with one lane in each direction while crews continue work on the overpass. During the coming weeks, crews will finish railing, bridge walls, sidewalks, and a center curb. At this time, INDOT expects to open the bridge to full capacity (two lanes in each direction) around mid-July.

US 31 traffic shift on or after July 10

On or after Friday, July 10, crews plan to shift traffic on US 31 to the new outside lanes between 103rd and Old Meridian streets. Once traffic on US 31 is shifted, construction will begin on the new inside lanes. Traffic will also be shifted on 106th and 116th streets, and motorists will notice extended left-turning distances to and from US 31. While lane configurations will be different in this area, turning movements will remain open.

Also, after US 31 traffic is shifted to a new alignment and elevation, crews will be able to safely set beams and continue bridge construction on 111th Street over US 31. See the map below for anticipated closures/openings in Carmel.
