Worrell eager to begin term

Jeff Worrell, a member of the Carmel Redevelopment Commission and longtime face of CarmelFest, defeated incumbent Luci Snyder on May 5 in the race to represent the Southeast District on the Carmel City Council.

He won with 58.65 percent of the vote. As he prepares for his first elected office ever, he spoke to Current in Carmel about what’s next for him.

What did you learn from the election?

I learned that hard work pays off. Getting out and meeting voters and communicating my message was critical to my success.

How will you prepare for the role?

Well I think I’ve been preparing for the role the last 20 years. I’ve tried to be involved in Carmel, serving on various boards and commissions, owning a business. But immediately, I was actually disappointed to see the next city council meeting has been cancelled because I was looking forward to attending that.

What is at the top of your to-do list when you take office?

This morning I got stuck in the 96th and Keystone traffic and that’s certainly one of the things I ran on so I’m going to start conversations with all of the entities and start gathering ideas. I already talked to a lot of residents in that area. I made notes and got names of people who are interested in advising me. And the stop sign at 126th and Auman is something I think we need to look at again in January. A lot of people asked me how quickly we can take action on that. We don’t want to make mistakes, but I think I know how to proceed with a plan of action.
