The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a battery that occurred in Sheridan in the early morning hours of April 5.

Sheridan police officers were the first on the scene at the 200 block of East Seventh Street where a 25-year-old male had been assaulted. The sheriff’s office detectives were called in to assist with the investigation as the incident developed into a robbery and stabbing.

According to initial information, Deputy Bryant Orem said the victim was at home when he was allegedly attacked by a possible suspect, Shawn Michael Tolan, 23, of Westfield. The victim, who suffered approximately 13 knife stab wounds in the chest and neck, was able to call for help. He was taken to the hospital and later released with non-life threatening injuries. Orem said electronics including an Xbox 1 and a Playstation were taken in the robbery.

“Investigators said the suspect fled the scene but they are hoping to meet with him in the near future to obtain additional information,” Orem stated. “It is believed that this is an isolated incident that may be drug related.”

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information on the incident should contact Hamilton County Investigations at 776-9887.
