Five Hamilton County Sheriff deputies were recently recognized for their life saving efforts. Receiving awards for their successful use of AED and/or CPR training were Lt. Tom Logan and deputies Nate Biddle, Kevin Crask, David Needham and John Cline.

In May 1997 the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office began a program of installing automatic external defibrillators in patrol vehicles. The main goal of the program was to reduce the time from the initial call for help to the first “shock.” The average first shock time for police is six minutes and 10 minutes for EMS. On average since the inception of the AED program the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has used the AED’S between six and nine times a year. All new devices for patrol vehicles and buildings were purchased in 2011. All deputies and Sheriff’s Office employees receive annual training in first aid, CPR, and AED use.
