En plein air: Experiencing a French style of outdoor art in Carmel

They have been painting all year and it is time to show their work. A juried show for Indiana Plein Air Painters Association members will open Nov. 8 at the Hoosier Salon Gallery in the Arts and Design District in  Carmel. The show is open to all IPAPA members. Judging the show will be Tom Post from Cincinnati, Ohio. Over $5,000 in prizes will be awarded.

IPAPA is a state-wide organization of 300 plein air painters formed in 1998 to give artists professional development by sponsoring paint-outs, workshops and other professional opportunities. En plein air is a French expression meaning to paint in the open air, or outdoors.

IPAPA is dedicated to the education of Indiana plein air painters and their supporters as well as the re-awakening of an appreciation for Indiana landscape painting based on its rich tradition. IPAPA is open to all artists regardless of their level of proficiency. A love of painting and desire for improvement is all that is required.

The Hoosier Salon Gallery is located at 22 N. Range Line Road in Carmel, Indiana. Opening Reception and Awards presentation will be in conjunction with Carmel’s Second Saturday Gallery Walk on from 6 to 9 p.m. Awards will be presented around 7:30 pm. The public is invited to attend.
