The following message was released today from Supt. of Parks and Recreation, Matt Dickey. Cleanup Day was originally scheduled for Sept. 13.

[I] regretfully wanted to inform you that due to the recent storms and heavy rainfall, the Zionsville Stream Walk and Cleanup has been cancelled.

Wednesday night storms and the rain on into the early hours of Thursday have left the conditions very unfavorable due to high, fast, and muddy waters. We are getting this information on the Town Web Site and the Town’s Social Media. We are also sending notice to the various outside press. For any potential participants who followed the pre-registration process and left us the appropriate contact information, we will also be alerting them through that system.

The Planning Committee had determined two weeks ago the water level and flow rate at which we felt the event could effectively be held. By tomorrow morning, we expect the conditions will still be several points above those. Also even if it were down, the water would likely be so turbid that visibility would be very poor we would have to be feeling by hand for material to be removed.

Also since the recommendation by others who do these cleanups across the region, is to get groups of people to participate and to have those groups/people preregister, this greatly assists participations numbers. It is very unwieldy to try and get all the people rescheduled for a different day, as they have often arranged their calendars around the original date. Therefore the Planning Committee had previously decided there would be NO postponement until some later date this same year. Instead, we will just work towards next year’s event.

Thanks to all of you who had supported this event and we hope you will continue to do so next year.
