June Morris Hedges, 94, native of Hamilton County and longtime activist in the Republican Party died Sept. 5, 2014. Born April 21, 1920, she was the daughter of John J. and Minnie West Morris.

She was a 1939 graduate of Carmel High School. She served two terms as Hamilton County Recorder during the 1970s following earlier employment with Indiana National and Merchants National Bank, the Indiana General Assembly and Carmel Screw Products Company.  Following her terms as recorder, she was employed at the Indiana Dept. of Revenue.

She was a member of Gray Friends Church, Carmel Historical Society and the Carmel Republican Women’s Club.

Survivors include her daughters; Dixie Packard and Diane Hedges; grandson, Chad (Nancy) Kaiser; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Hedges; sister, Justine Mosbaugh; and brothers, John and James Morris.

Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 at Carmel Friends Church, followed by the funeral service at 4 p.m. A private burial will follow.
