The Boone County Special Response Team responded to a suicidal person near the intersection of SR 39 and County Road 650 South today.

A third party call to dispatch stated 56 year-old man, of Lebanon, had a loaded gun on his bed and that he was “done with it all.”

When deputies arrived they attempted to call the man out on their public address speaker.  After he did not respond BCSO Admin mobilized the Crisis Negotiating Team and the Special Response Team.  BCSO Communications Officers then advised they received another third party call stating the man had told them that if the officers did not move back that he would kill himself.  Prior to SRT and CNT arriving, the subject walked out of the house, unarmed, and gave himself up to police.

Boone County Sheriff’s Office Deputies transported the man to Community North for evaluation.  His gun was placed into evidence for safe keeping.

Major Mike Nielsen commented: “I’m happy with the way this ended today.  It hasn’t been a good week for Indiana Police Officers, so when something so stressful, and potentially deadly, ends safely…that is the peaceful resolution we look for.  I am glad our deputies can go home safe tonight, and we can get this gentleman some help.”
