Letter: Rep. Brooks’ stance on NSA spying is wrong

Editor,

On June 27 a coalition of 21 organizations from across the political spectrum launched StandAgainstSpying.org, an interactive website that grades members of Congress on what they have done – or, often, not done – to rein in the National Security Agency. Susan Brooks, Indiana’s 5th Congressional Representative, received a grade of “F” from StandAgainstSpying.org because of her support to increase funding for the NSA. The NSA, with assistance from major telecommunications carriers including AT&T, Comcast and Verizon, has engaged in a massive unconstitutional dragnet surveillance of domestic communications and communications records of millions of ordinary Americans. Incidentally, all three of these telecommunication giants have donated money to U.S. Rep. Brooks through their PACs. If you think that the NSA’s spying on you is no big deal, then, by all means, support Brooks this November. I, however, believe the NSA has greatly overstepped its authority and needs to be reined in. If you agree that the government has no business spying on your personal life, I would appreciate your vote this November.
