Several Carmel students will participate in Summer Stock Stage’s production of “Hair: The American Tribal Love – Rock Musical” from June 26 through June 29 at Ayres Auditorium at Park Tudor High School in Broad Ripple.

The first of the group’s two musical productions this season, “Hair” is the story of a group of politically active, long-haired hippies in the 1960s as they search for balance between their love for one another, their refusal to join the Vietnam War effort and their relationships with their conservative parents.

Many performers, ages 13 through 19, in the show are students planning futures in performing arts. And more than 30 kids altogether will perform in the show.

Carmel students performing in the production include Eva Bublick, Liza Christie, Haley Glickman, Raelyn O’Dell and Lauren Searl.

Due to the show’s mature content, certain elements have been modified, considering the ages of performers.

“As these students transition from high school to college theatre, Summer Stock Stage feels it is important to give them challenging material, and ‘Hair’ meets that criteria,”, Summer Stock Stage spokeswoman Mallory Sturgeon said in a statement. “While certain language and songs have been altered, the integrity of the piece is maintained.”

The show, unlike the original 1968 production will feature no nudity.

“The piece itself allows for a great deal of artistic freedom in staging and choreography, so this is an original, unique PG-13 production,” Sturgeon said.

All ticket sales will go straight back into the Summer Stock Stage program. Tickets will be sold for $17 a piece.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. June 26 through June 28 and at 2:30 p.m. June 29.
