Come participate as a runner, jogger or walker in the 26th annual Fishers Freedom Festival’s 5K Event on Saturday, June 28th at Roy G. Holland Park (One Park Drive) in Fishers.  The 5K event will begin promptly at 8 a.m.  A non-competitive family fun two-mile walk will begin at 8:05 a.m. and a free Kiddie Run at 9 a.m.  Awards will be presented following the 5K event race at 8:55 a.m. in Holland Park.

Last year’s event attracted a crowd of nearly 1,200 participants.  Runners will take a scenic route through a Fishers neighborhood accompanied with water stations that are sponsored by Kinetico.  Wheelchair participants are welcomed.  No pets, bikes or roller blades in the 5K event, please.

This year’s 5K title sponsor is Allisonville Meadows.  Co-sponsors include Central Indiana Orthopedics, DeFur Voran LLC, Meyer Najem Construction, Moore Restoration, Star Financial Bank, Runners Forum, WISH TV 8 and Kinetico.

The sixth annual “Kiddie Run” for children ages nine and under will begin at 9:15 a.m. on the Holland Park baseball field next to the 5K registration tent.  There is no charge to participate and all children will receive a special commemorative prize.  The onsite registration will be at the baseball field beginning at 8:45 a.m. The Kiddie Run’s Co-Partners are Don Hinds Ford, Incredi-Plex, Rainbow Child Care Center, Greino Graphics, Church, Church, Hittle and Antrim, AHEPA Management Company, The Farmers Bank, Mudslingers Pool and Patio, PNC Bank, Fishers Tax Prep and Speedway LLC.

Bring your cameras because local mascots will be at the Kiddie Run to encourage the children and pose for free photographs.  All 5K and family fun event participants are encouraged to cheer on the children as the 5K participants wait for their race results.  All children must be accompanied by their parent and sign a release onsite for the Kiddie Run.

Online registration for the 5K event is available and encouraged until Tuesday, June 24th on the Fishers Freedom Festival’s website at www.FishersFreedomFestival.org and following the “Schedule of Events” then “5K Event” links.  For those pre-registering online, the cost is $15 per person (ages 13 and up) and $11.00 per person (ages 12 and under) for the 5K event, and includes a festival giveaway item and event timing chip.  For the family walk, the pre-registration online cost is $13.00 per person (ages 13 and up).  There is no charge for the family walk for those ages 12 and under.  A giveaway item will be included for all participants in the 2 mile family walk.  Participants may pay by credit card online.

Late registration and early packet pick-up for pre-registered participants will be available on Thursday, June 26th and Friday, June 27th from 4:30 – 7 p.m. at the race registration at Runners Forum Store in Fishers (14033 Mundy Dr, Fishers). Participants are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to avoid waiting in lines on race day.  Registration will be available the day of the race from 6:45 a.m. – 7:45 a.m. near Sunblest Boulevard and Ellipse Parkway on the west side of Holland Park.  Late registration (after June 25) costs go up to $18 per person (ages 13 and over), $15.00 per person (ages 12 and under) for the 5K event.  The 2-mile family walk costs increase to $13.00 per person (ages 13 and over).  There is no charge for the family walk for those ages 12 and under.  Registration fees may be paid by credit card, debit card, cash or check.

Residents who live along the 5K route are encouraged to have hoses and water available.  All funds raised go to the Roy Holland Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Roy Holland Backpack for Kids program.  A pep band comprised of Hamilton Southeastern High School and Fishers High School will be present.

Back in 1989, the founders of the Fishers Parade and Festival decided to have a community gathering to celebrate Independence Day.  With the help of volunteers, the event originated as a one-day community picnic, parade, and a few games for the children.  Due to the overwhelming participation by the public, this event grew to a two-day event.

The mission of the Fishers Freedom Festival is to encourage fellowship through civic partnerships and citizen involvement by creating a safe environment, developing needed community services, promoting family integrity and striving to improve the quality of life for every resident by investing in human potential.

The 26th annual Fishers Freedom Festival will be held on Saturday, June 28 & Sunday, June 29 at Holland Park and is always in need of volunteers, sponsors and advertisers.  For more information on volunteering or about the festival, please visit www.FishersFreedomFestival.org, email [email protected], visit 8591 East 116th Street in Fishers or call 317-595-3195.  Make sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest.
