Fishers Freedom Festival in need of volunteers

0

The 26th Fishers Freedom Festival is a month away and volunteers are needed in various capacities for this event which attracts over 50,000 attendees providing a wide range of activities and events.  Adults and children can work as little or as many shifts as you want for various opportunities on Thursday, June 26 through Sunday, June 29.  Students can use these volunteer opportunities towards their community service hours for school.

Being a not-for-profit organization, volunteers are a crucial part to the festival’s success each year.  Sign up online by going to www.fishersfreedomfestival.org and click on the “Information” tab and select “Volunteer Opportunities.”   Most are positions for people of all ages, but some require adults only.  These are some, but not all, open volunteer opportunities:

5K Walk/Run – Help with registration, hand out T-shirts, hand out snacks and drinks and clean up.

Arts & Crafts Area – Map out booths, check in vendors and assist the vendors to their booth location.

Business and Free Game Tent – Layout booths, direct vendors to the entrance of the tent and parking area, help vendors unload their goods and take them to the vendor booths.

Children’s Parade – Line up parade participants, contest judging and passing out goodie bags.

Children’s Tent – Help children with hands-on crafts at different stations, replenish craft supplies, paint children’s faces, set up or clean up.

Firefighter Combat Challenge – Set up the challenge course and pack it up back into the truck.  Must be at least 16 years old and physically fit.

Food Drive Tent – Sort and box food and school supplies and carry them to the storage trailer.  Volunteers will also walk the park to collect items dropped off into the grocery carts placed around the park.

Food Vendor Booths –Mark booth spaces for food vendors, help with set up, take ice orders and deliver ice.

Free Game Tent – Assist vendors to their booth for set-up.

Information Tent – The Information Tent is the place for Festival patrons to get information on the events, schedules, and maps.  Sell T-Shirts, answer questions, fill drink coolers and decorate parade golf carts.

Parking Crew – Direct vehicles into the parking area and collect the parking fee.  Must be 13 years or older.

T-Shirt & Light Up Necklace Sales – Sell festival shirts and light up necklaces on during evening band performances.

Back in 1989, the founders of the Fishers Parade and Festival decided to have a community gathering to celebrate Independence Day.  With the help of volunteers, the event originated as a one-day community picnic, parade, and a few games for the children.  Due to the overwhelming participation by the public, this event grew to a two-day event.

The mission of the Fishers Freedom Festival is to encourage fellowship through civic partnerships and citizen involvement by creating a safe environment, developing needed community services, promoting family integrity and striving to improve the quality of life for every resident by investing in human potential.

The 26th annual Fishers Freedom Festival will be held on Saturday, June 28 & Sunday, June 29 at Holland Park and is always in need of volunteers, sponsors and advertisers.  For more information on volunteering or about the festival, please visit www.FishersFreedomFestival.org, email [email protected], visit 8591 East 116th Street in Fishers or call 317-595-3195.  Make sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest.
