Staff report

Controversial speaker Oliver North will make a stop in Carmel next week.

The former Iran-Contra figure and Fox News host will be speaking before a crowd of prospective townhome buyers at The Barrington of Carmel.

It’s all part of the new senior living community’s plan to host a series of guest speakers for residents and special guests.

North will present “America in the New Millennium” at 1 p.m. April 15.

North also is known for being a combat-decorated U.S. Marine, a small business founder, an inventor with three U.S. patents, a syndicated columnist and the host of “War Stories” on Fox News.

A spokesperson for The Barrington said in a statement that the community is thrilled to have him come to the campus and discuss the United States’ role in the world – militarily, economically and politically.

“We are honored to welcome Col. North to our community. We look forward to hearing first-hand about his amazing experiences and insights,” said Troy Cannaday, executive director at The Barrington of Carmel. “He truly is the epitome of an American hero, and everyone is anxious to hear him speak at the upcoming event. This is just the kind of engaging opportunities that we love to provide for our residents and guests at The Barrington.”

North also will discuss his latest book, “American Heroes on the Homefront,” and will be available for a book signing afterward.

The event is not open to the general public.
