Why did you become a teacher? Actually, I first studied microbiology in college. I became an educator when I realized how much I wanted to make science accessible to children.

What goals do you have for your students? I hope that, above all, I teach them to ask questions and seek understanding. I want my students to be excited about the process of learning. I would love for them to realize how powerful knowledge can be in this world. It’s a game-changer.

What do you encourage parents to do at home to help their children strengthen particular skills? Read together. Ask questions. Imagine. Discuss. Ask more questions. Seek answers. Never tire of the learning loop.

What is your favorite movie? I’m stuck between “The Hunt for Red October” and “Contact.”

Who is your favorite musician or band? Alison Krauss

What’s something your students might not know about you? In my free time, I sing with a Christian music band, Acoustic Psalm.
