Pothole help is on the way

CIF-COM potholes

By Ann Craig-Cinnamon

Now that the snow and ice are finally off our roads, the damage they have left behind has become painfully evident.

There are hundreds of potholes all over Fishers that now have to be dealt with.  Autumn Gasior, the director of Public Relations for the Town of Fishers, says up to this point DPW has been putting bandaids on the problem, using a cold-mix until asphalt plants open in the spring.  However, March 17th, at its regular meeting, the Town Council approved a resolution authorizing the Town to move forward with outside contractors, in addition to DPW crews, to repair potholes.  That means, Gasior says, that the town will begin an aggressive plan to get the potholes under control.

Beginning March 24, two dedicated DPW crews and three outside contractors will begin repairing potholes with hot-mix. These will only be day crews unless plants agree to stay open throughout the night. Then, DPW crews will work night shifts as well, according to Gasior.  DPW has used approximately 135 tons of cold mix and repaired 600 potholes in 2014 so far.

Gasior says the town will send out pothole messaging on social media starting March 24. Messaging will include drive carefully and look out for DPW, as well as report a pothole.   If you’ve got a pothole that needs fixing, you can report it at: http://www.fishers.in.us/requesttracker.aspx or by clicking the “report it” button on the Town of Fishers’ homepage.
