The Center for the Performing Arts’ educational outreach program sponsored six musicians from the Bahia Orchestra Project to lead a side-by-side rehearsal at Creekside Middle School.
The format of the Feb. 14 event provided a cultural exchange that included a Q&A session, a performance by the Brazilian musicians and a combined rehearsal led by Brazilian conductor Yuri Azevedo.
Creekside Middle School orchestra director Becky Sendi conducted the eighth-grade students and guests on “Barber of Seville,” a piece the middle school students are learning for a spring concert.
The outreach event was part of the Center for Performing Art’s ongoing educational activities, connecting community kids and adults to world-class musicians.
