Westfield house fire safely contained

The Westfield Fire Dept. was dispatched to a residence fire at 322 N. Union St. just before noon Feb. 6. Officials said crews arrived on the scene and immediately noticed fire and smoke surrounding the home.

Firefighters safely entered the structure and focused their efforts on extinguishing the flames. During their search they learned no one was in the home. While trying to control the fire, a firefighter suffered a slight hand injury. Officials said he was transported and treated at Riverview Hospital where he was released the same day. There were no other injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Officials said the damage is estimated at $60,000. The Noblesville, Carmel and Fishers fire departments all assisted with the fire.
