Over the past month the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has been working residential burglaries in White River and Noblesville Townships, with the latest occurring on Jan. 14. Deputy Bryant Orem said during the most recent incident, the burglary was interrupted when the homeowner returned and the suspect fled the house in a residential neighborhood off 191st Street in Noblesville.
Orem said during the month-long investigation detectives identified two possible suspects, and on Jan. 15 sheriff’s deputies and members of the Noblesville Police Dept. arrested Amy A. Price, 38, of Noblesville on an unrelated parole violation warrant. During her interview, Price told detectives that she and Aaron Harlow, 30, also from Noblesville, were responsible for five residential burglaries over the past month in Noblesville and White River Townships, including the interrupted one on Jan. 14.
“Their particular M.O. was to knock on the door and try to ascertain if someone was home,” Sheriff Mark Bowen said at a press conference.
Orem said detectives are still working on recovering some of the stolen items, and both suspects are in custody at the Hamilton County jail after being initially charged with burglary and theft. Officials said stolen items included electronics, jewelry and other personal items, which were then pawned in Indianapolis.
“Through the use of pawn records and things of that nature we were able to track down some items that we knew were outstanding,” Bowen said.
Bowen wants to remind residents to remain vigilant and report any unusual or suspicious activity in and around homes or neighborhoods. Simple measures such as locking doors and windows, closing garage doors, installing outdoor lights and making the home look occupied at all times go a long way toward deterring criminals who are looking for easy targets. Home security alarms and camera systems also work well.
“Hamilton County has not really experienced any upswing in the number of burglaries or daytime burglaries. Burglaries may occur during the day as that is when residents are often away from homes,” Orem stated.
