It’s a new year, and with it comes a new mayoral appointment to the Carmel Redevelopment Commission along with the renewal of previous ones. 
Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard has announced that Corrie Meyer will fill the spot Tom Crowley vacated last year.
Meyer is a certified urban planner who has worked for the past 10 years as a planner and project manager for Indianapolis-based Schmidt Associates, an architecture and design firm. Meyer is also a registered landscape architect and is certified in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design building and construction by the United States Green Building Council. She is a board member for the Urban Land Institute, a past president of the American Society of Landscape Architects (Indiana chapter) and a member of the American Planning Association.
Meyer has lived in Carmel for 14 years with her husband, Nate, and two sons. She holds a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture and a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from Ball State University.
Other notable endeavors include the development of a corridor and streetscape plan for the Massachusetts Avenue cultural district, and work establishing African University in Cameroon.
Meyer has also been an active community volunteer, serving on the Indianapolis Parks Foundation’s board of trustees, on a steering committee as member and co-chair of the connectivity committee for Reconnecting to Our Waterways, as a board member for the Carmel Clay Public Library Foundation, as vice president of the Nickel Plate Arts Council and as a volunteer at Northview Church in Carmel.
“With Corrie’s extensive experience overseeing the planning, design and community consensus for various urban environment and urban planning projects, she is uniquely qualified to serve on this important commission. I’m confident she will help guide the city in our many redevelopment projects in the future,” Brainard said.
“I look forward to working with Mayor Brainard and the Carmel City Council on guiding the city’s exciting redevelopment projects,” Meyer said. “What I feel I bring to the table is long-term vision and strategic planning. I’m ready to jump in with both feet. I’ve been reading all the information packets and researching past projects. I’m looking forward to my first meeting.”
Meyer declined to comment on the tribulations that have overshadowed the CRC’s positive work over the past year, instead focusing on the work already done and the future.
“Anyone who comes to Carmel to dine, shop or catch a show can easily see the success our city has achieved already. There is much more to do, and I’m thrilled to be part of that process,” she said.
Meyer will join a CRC board that also includes William Hammer, David Bowers, Bradley Meyer and Jeff Worrell, as well as Greg Phillips, a non-voting member from the Carmel Clay School Board.
